Nathan Gill, a former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has appeared in Westminster Magistrates Court facing serious accusations of bribery. Specifically, he is charged with eight counts of bribery and one of conspiracy, having supposedly accepted payments from Oleg Valoshyn, a former Ukrainian politician, to make pro-Russian statements as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). These allegations claim Gill was involved in creating narratives that benefited Russia concerning Ukrainian events during his term from 2014 to 2020. His legal troubles intensified after being stopped at Manchester Airport, where evidence of his dealings was reportedly uncovered.
Mr Gill is alleged to have accepted bribes to make statements in the European Parliament that were beneficial to Russia, according to the Crown.
The court heard that Mr Gill was complicit in creating a beneficial narrative for Russia regarding events in Ukraine through his MEP activities.
