The Democratic Unionist party has said any Northern Ireland protocol deal must meet its seven tests but they omit the one that really matters: the test of Sir Jeffrey Donaldson's leadership.The seven conditions concern laws and trading rules, which have room for fudge and ambiguity.The choice facing Donaldson, in contrast, appears stark and binary: accept and sell the deal to unionism, paving the way for the restoration of power sharing.
