Newly released Irish government archives reveal that parts of the British government and disgruntled RUC members orchestrated leaks undermining Sinn Fein during the 1998 Good Friday agreement.
A report from October 2002 highlighted that Special Branch officers were blamed for leaks intended to damage Sinn Fein during the 2001 general election in Northern Ireland.
The leaks included explosive details such as an IRA intelligence database described as a 'hit list' of leading Conservative politicians, which were passed to the BBC.
Other significant leaks involved sensitive information about the Drumcree Orange Order march in 1997, where Mowlam sought compromises amid tensions between nationalists and unionists.
