In my first major speech of 2025, I will acknowledge the Conservative Party made mistakes—we announced leaving the EU before having a growth plan.
These mistakes were made because we told people what they wanted to hear first and then tried to work it out later. That will stop under my leadership.
I will tell hard truths to restore trust with the public. The people will never trust politicians unless we can accept our mistakes.
By pledging for net zero emissions without a clear plan and promising lower immigration while numbers increased, we have lost credibility with voters.
