A woman in her 30s suffered a serious neck injury in a stabbing on Smallbrook Queensway in Birmingham city centre shortly before 9pm on Friday. She remains in hospital in critical condition. A man in his 20s was arrested near the scene and is currently in custody. Police believe the attack was unprovoked and are working to understand why it happened. Officers will be in the area to continue the investigation and provide reassurance, and the force is not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
