Dr. Alice Jill Edwards, the UN special rapporteur on torture, has raised concerns regarding British prisoners sentenced under the abolished Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) scheme. Individuals with these indeterminate sentences are reportedly enduring psychological torture, with many being held for far longer than they would under standard sentences.
