Britain has joined Germany and France in warning Israel against the suspension of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is facing a dire humanitarian crisis. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers urged Israel and Hamas to revive ceasefire negotiations and voiced concerns that halting aid may violate international humanitarian law. The ministers emphasized the need for Israel to ensure the safe provision of essential supplies to Gaza’s civilian population and called for an immediate return to dialogue to maintain the ceasefire and seek a two-state solution. They expressed that humanitarian aid must not be weaponized in conflict negotiations.
We call on the government of Israel to abide by its international obligations to ensure full, rapid, safe and unhindered provision of humanitarian assistance to the population in Gaza.
Humanitarian aid should never be contingent on a ceasefire or used as a political tool. We reiterate that the civilians of Gaza must be prioritized.
