UK bets big and small on nuclear to meet DC demand
Briefly

The UK government has announced a substantial £14.2 billion investment in the Sizewell C nuclear power plant to enhance energy capacity and supply for datacenters. Along with the construction of small modular reactors by Rolls-Royce, these projects aim to greatly increase the nation’s nuclear output by the 2030s. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband emphasized the necessity of new nuclear energy to ensure clean energy abundance, protect family finances, and combat climate change. The commitment is underscored by industry leaders like AWS, who recognize nuclear energy as pivotal for future technology infrastructure demands.
On the larger scale, the government has announced a £14.2 billion investment to build the Sizewell C nuclear power plant on the Suffolk coast.
Energy secretary Ed Miliband said: "We need new nuclear to deliver a golden age of clean energy abundance, because that is the only way to protect family finances."
Once small modular reactors and Sizewell C come online in the 2030s, the UK will put more nuclear power into the grid than over the previous half century.
AWS chief executive Matt Garman said: "I believe nuclear is a big part of that, particularly as we look ten years out."
