Taxpayers pay out 50,000 as Revenue Commissioners forced to scrap hundreds of computer monitors
Briefly

A precautionary measure was taken by Revenue after reports of a monitor billowing smoke in their Dublin office. A total of 377 screens, most over 15 years old and used as secondary displays, were removed from operation as a safety measure. Despite the model being viewed as not posing any immediate risk, all of them were disconnected per an official’s instructions. The removal created a shortage in workstations, leading to urgent requests for replacements by the affected office staff, illustrating the challenge of maintaining operational capacity during safety precautions.
We have had an issue with one of the monitors in the building billowing smoke while on standby ... we're hoping you could advise on what the best course of action is.
The monitors are urgently required as we now have 62 workstations without a monitor, and we cannot facilitate all staff at present.
