By 15 July, the mean temperature in the UK was 2.0°C below average. The Met Office confirmed it was the coldest start to July since 2004, with increased rainfall.
'The start of July continued June's theme of cooler than average weather, but with the addition of more wet conditions,' said Met Office scientist Emily Carlisle.
Overall, July in the UK was cooler than average with temperatures of 14.8°C, 0.5°C below the 1991-2020 average, with the last week seeing the highest recorded temperature of the year.
Sunshine hours were below average, with the UK experiencing just 153.7 hours - 11% below average. England had 19% more rainfall, while Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland were slightly drier.
