'Social media transformed our business'
""Ultimately we are in a place that isn't high footfall. We are actually selling halal meat online, in real time.""
""not have been possible without social media.""
""The first three years of our business we grew completely organically so we didn't pay for any marketing.""
""We've managed to spend that money on a warehouse, which has been amazing. I've also been able to hire my mum.""
Malik Butchers in Wolverhampton used TikTok to gain millions of views and convert online attention into direct sales, enabling real-time halal meat sales from a low-footfall location and supporting the opening of a second shop in Stoke-on-Trent. Lovendu, founded by Laura Schmidt in 2020, expanded from two products to 24, grew organically to over 100,000 followers, moved into a warehouse, and hired family staff without initial paid marketing. A significant portion of UK SMEs on TikTok are based in the Midlands, and digital storefronts offer cost-effective customer access and lower risk for independents.
