Shoplifting offences in England and Wales have risen to the highest level in 20 years, with over 430,000 incidents recorded last year, up by more than a third from the previous year. Retailer organizations believe these numbers are just a fraction of the actual incidents.
Recorded personal theft is also at its highest level since 2004, according to the latest ONS crime survey. Retailers, like Fiona Malone who lost around £26,000 to shoplifting, are investing in anti-theft technology to combat losses.
Ms. Fiona Malone, a retailer from Wales, expressed her sadness over the need to invest in AI technology and headsets to monitor shoplifting. She mentioned willingness to help those in need to prevent criminality.
