Michael Donovan, who kept Shannon Matthews hidden for 24 days, has died of cancer. He was part of a fake kidnap plot hatched with Shannon's mother, Karen Matthews.
Hundreds of police officers and local residents searched for Shannon, who was found alive in a drawer under a bed, drugged. Matthews and Donovan were found guilty of kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Donovan, also known as Mick, was the uncle of Karen Matthews' boyfriend. He had changed his name to Aiden Johnson after being released from prison in 2012.
Karen Matthews was jailed for her role in the fake kidnap plot, while Donovan was diagnosed with throat cancer two months ago and passed away at a hospital in West Yorkshire.
