According to provisional police figures, race hate crimes in Northern Ireland have surged by a third, with a notable increase linked to recent public unrest and anti-immigration protests.
Assistant Chief Constable Bobby Singleton called the rise in hate crimes 'really stark,' highlighting the pressure on black and minority ethnic communities and ongoing PSNI investigations into recent violence.
Following an anti-immigration protest that led to rioting in south Belfast, there were numerous incidents of violence against minority-owned businesses and homes, indicating an alarming trend.
The PSNI has made 45 arrests relating to the disorder, including seven minors, revealing the extent of youth involvement in these escalating hate crime incidents.
