Three NHS workers have filed legal action against Barts Health NHS Trust after a new policy banned visible symbols of support for political causes. The individuals, including Dr. Aarash Saleh, Dr. Sara Ali, and nurse Ahmad Baker, claim the policy indirectly discriminates against them by restricting their ability to express solidarity with their Palestinian identity. The policy's guidelines state that staff cannot wear items associated with particular nations or political views, which has led to accusations of creating a hostile environment for patients and staff alike.
Mr Baker, a senior nurse at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, claimed he was ordered to remove a background on his video calls that showed a fruit bowl containing a watermelon because it could be perceived as antisemitic.
Ahmad Baker said he was told to remove a video background showing a fruit bowl as it could be perceived as antisemitic. Being threatened with disciplinary action is deeply upsetting.
