Neighbouring properties were evacuated and residents were advised to keep doors and windows shut because of heavy smoke. Mobilised crews came from Beckenham, Forest Hill, Woodside, West Norwood and other surrounding stations. The High Street was closed with significant traffic disruption. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
