The creator of 'Peaky Blinders,' Steven Knight, discussed the anticipated film, set during WWII with Tommy Shelby facing the Nazis. Knight emphasized the perilous position of Britain at that time, isolated before the U.S. entered the war. He highlighted themes of personal conflict for Shelby, stating he will face both external and internal demons. Although no release date has been announced by Netflix, several returning characters and new faces are expected to join the cast, amplifying the drama as Shelby navigates his new challenges in the war-torn landscape.
Knight hinted that Tommy Shelby will confront powerful foes during WWII, stating, 'It's the Second World War, so [Tommy Shelby] is facing the Nazis, the enemy at the time in the 1940s.'
The film portrays Britain in isolation before US involvement, with Knight noting, 'Britain was alone, fighting against Germans and the Italians before America joined the war.'
Reflecting the ongoing personal struggles of his character, Knight explained, 'As ever, [Tommy] confronts his own demons - and the demons that come for him - in his own particular way.'
Some new faces will join the film's cast, including Barry Keoghan and Rebecca Ferguson, with Knight suggesting, 'It's likely that Sam Claflin will return as Oswald Mosley.'
