Katarina Rukavishnikova, co-owner of a New Jersey pet shop, was shot in the face with a crossbow by a regular customer, Raymond M. Carey. The incident occurred without warning as Carey approached Rukavishnikova, mumbling and firing at point-blank range. She bravely wrestled the weapon away and removed the arrow from her mouth, suffering significant dental injuries. Following the attack, Rukavishnikova returned to work the next day but is now considering closing the shop due to ongoing trauma and fear of another attack.
"I pulled the arrow out of my mouth and went running, screaming for help," Rukavishnikova said.
"I don't know if it was jammed or he was trying to reload it. Then I jumped in and took the crossbow," she said.
"His intent was to kill me, more than likely," Rukavishnikova said.
"He's very quiet, reserved, comes and gets his [pet] food and leaves," she told the outlet.
