Multiple schools in Co Tyrone and Co Antrim closed on Monday following a threatening email, prompting an investigation by the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI). The PSNI is coordinating with London’s Metropolitan Police and considers the email sent to nine schools a hoax. Education Minister Paul Givan condemned the disruption caused and praised the PSNI's quick action. While officers conducted thorough checks at the schools, no threats were found, urging the community to remain vigilant. Police continue investigations and have thanked the schools' cooperation during this incident.
"We take incidents of this nature very seriously and we understand the concern in the community, not to mention the disruption it has caused in each of the school communities and for students and parents," she said.
"I condemn the disruption caused this morning after an email was sent to a number of schools across Northern Ireland. I welcome the speedy response from the PSNI," said Mr. Givan.
"Based on inquiries and information to date, police are treating this as a hoax," the PSNI added.
"Checks have not, at this time, resulted in anything untoward at any of the schools," the police stated.
