Morrisons to shut 52 cafes and 17 stores as part of major shake-up
Briefly

The Independent emphasizes the importance of on-the-ground journalism amid pivotal US events. Their coverage spans various topics, such as reproductive rights and climate change. The publication's commitment to accessible journalism is highlighted, as they avoid paywalls to ensure all Americans can access their reporting. Furthermore, Morrisons is undergoing a significant restructuring, leading to the closure of many cafes, convenience stores, and counters, impacting hundreds of workers. CEO Rami Baitieh stresses that these changes are vital to reinvigorate the chain and refocus investment on areas of customer value.
The closures will see it shut down 52 cafes, all 18 market kitchens, 17 Morrisons Daily convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies.
Mr Baitieh, Morrisons' chief executive, said the changes were a necessary part of our plans to renew and reinvigorate the chain and invest in areas that customers really value.
