I was screaming and fighting him quite a lot. I was terrified of what he could do. He said that if someone was to find out, he would do something to me. I was terrified of what he could do"

Emil Burlacu, a 35-year-old migrant from Romania who arrived in Britain in 2008, raped and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old schoolgirl in London. He covered the girl's mouth, repeatedly threatened her and warned her not to tell authorities, leaving the child terrified. A jury convicted him of two counts of rape, assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration, sexual assault, and causing a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. He received a 24-year prison sentence and was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. The victim has been left traumatised and support resources are provided.
