Detective Constable Neil Gray was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police after turning up for work under the influence of alcohol. Colleagues reported concerns regarding his state, leading to a test at Kingston Police Station that revealed his alcohol level was three times the legal limit for fitness for duty. Assistant Commissioner Rachel Williams highlighted the serious breach of public trust and the reputational damage caused to the police. Gray received no mitigating factors for his conduct and was placed on the barred list of the College of Policing.
Assistant Commissioner Rachel Williams stated, "The public would not expect a serving police officer to undertake their duties whilst unfit through alcohol. The reputational damage to the Met is clear here."
Williams emphasized, "A member of the public would expect that all police officers are fit when they are on-duty, stemming from the trust and confidence that the public place in the police service to protect them."
