Alfie Franco, 20, stabbed Ahmad Al Ibrahim, 16, in Huddersfield after Ahmad brushed past Franco's girlfriend. Ahmad, a Syrian refugee from Homs who had recently arrived in West Yorkshire after being injured in a bombing, was killed when Franco drove a flick knife into his neck. Franco had consumed multiple drugs before the attack and lured Ahmad over following a brief verbal exchange captured on CCTV. A jury convicted Franco of murder; he admitted public possession of a knife. Judge Howard Crowson sentenced Franco to life with a minimum of 23 years, rejecting Franco's claim he saw a weapon.
