In a tragic incident in Midleton, Co Cork, a 66-year-old Polish man named Wieslaw Wozniak was found deceased, while a woman remains critically ill in the hospital. Emergency services responded promptly, but Mr. Wozniak was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman is in stable condition after treatment for alcohol poisoning. Several bottles of suspected homemade alcohol were discovered at the property, prompting laboratory tests to investigate potential toxins. Gardaí confirmed the incident is not suspicious, and Mr. Wozniak's relatives have been informed of his passing.
Gardaí and paramedics were at the scene within minutes but, despite desperate efforts to revive Mr Wozniak, he was pronounced dead at the scene before he could be rushed to CUH.
It is understood she has responded well to treatment for suspected alcohol poisoning.
Homemade alcohol can prove extremely dangerous if made incorrectly or if it becomes contaminated with toxins.
Gardaí have confirmed the identity of the deceased who, while a Polish national, had been resident in Cork for some time.
