Liam Payne's friend Roger Nores and two hotel employees were acquitted of manslaughter charges related to the singer's death in Buenos Aires. The court ruled they could not prevent the fall after a drug-fueled night. Nores expressed relief over the verdict, allowing him to pay respects to Payne in the UK. Meanwhile, two individuals accused of supplying cocaine to Payne remain incarcerated, as autopsy results revealed a mix of harmful substances in his system at the time of his fatal plunge from the hotel balcony.
'Glad this is finally over. I'm happy I'm now going to be able to travel to the UK and say goodbye to my friend,' Nores told Rolling Stone in the wake of the ruling.
The ruling stated, 'It is possible that, if he had stayed in his company at all times, [Payne] would not have obtained the drugs and alcohol in the quantities necessary for the state of intoxication he exhibited at the time of his death.'
The judges determined that Nores didn't play a role in Payne 'obtaining and consuming alcohol'—nor could he have done anything to prevent the fatal fall.
The two men accused of selling Payne cocaine are still in prison awaiting trial after the singer's autopsy revealed a toxic mixture of drugs in his system.
