Virginia Giuffre's lawyer, Karrie Louden, has raised doubts about her suicide after the victim was found dead at home in Australia. Louden noted that Giuffre had shown no signs of self-harm prior to her death, describing the family’s assertion as surprising. Just weeks before her passing, Giuffre had posted about recovering from an injury and expressed hope for her future. Her family confirmed her death was a suicide linked to her traumatic history as a victim of sexual abuse and trafficking, calling her a bright light for survivors.
"When I got the phone call, I was like, 'Are you joking?' Because there was no sign that that was something she was considering," the lawyer told The Sun.
"There's suicide and then there's misadventure," Louden claimed. "I didn't see her in the room. I wasn't in there."
"She was in a lot of pain but she was looking forward to things in the future," her lawyer insisted. "She wanted to renovate this house and all sorts of things like that."
"She lost her life to suicide, after being a lifelong victim of sexual abuse and sex trafficking," family statement said. "She was the light that lifted so many survivors."
