The Irish mixed 4x400m relay team competed in the final at the Omnisport Arena, led by 17-year-old Conor Kelly who began strongly but struggled against more experienced competitors. His teammates included Phil Healy, Marcus Lawler, and final leg runner Mawdsley, whose impressive split of 49.93 seconds was the fastest of any woman in the race. However, ultimately Ireland finished in fifth place with a time of 3:17.63, trailing the Netherlands, Belgium, and Great Britain. Despite the disappointment, the team recognized signs of potential for future competitions.
I started well, the first 100m I got out and was up on everyone, and I should have really pressed at the break.
There's lots of positives to take, but we probably thought we could come out here and have a cut, so it's disappointment.
Mawdsley was glad to get 'the nerves out of the way' ahead of her individual campaign and had no regrets about blasting the first lap.
