Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to the acclaimed game, has been removed from Nintendo's North American eShop, sparking speculation about its future. While it's still available on other platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, some believe the removal may indicate a strategic move for a future Switch 2 launch rather than cancellation. Developer Team Cherry has assured fans that development is progressing and the game will eventually be released. Leading up to the anticipated launch, the game garnered awards for being the "Most Anticipated Game" in 2022 and 2023, despite minimal updates.
"Yes the game is real, progressing and will release," said Team Cherry marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin, in response to a fan asking about Hollow Knight: Silksong's development.
In 2022, Hollow Knight: Silksong won a "Most Anticipated Game" award from Unity. Team Cherry thanked the community for their support and said, "It can't be too much longer, surely!"
While the game is still listed on the PlayStation Store, Xbox, Steam, and the Nintendo eShop in the EU, the circumstances of why it was removed from Nintendo's North American eShop is a mystery.
A strong theory is that it's being moved to a Switch 2 launch and not outright canceled.
