Greggs makes major change to stores in shoplifting hotspots
Briefly

In response to rising shoplifting incidents, Greggs introduced a trial at select stores where customers must request refrigerated sandwiches and drinks from behind the counter. The initiative aims to enhance safety for both customers and staff, particularly in locations experiencing higher levels of anti-social behavior. While the measures are being rolled out in a few locations, there are no immediate plans for a nationwide implementation, indicating a focused approach to addressing local challenges rather than a broad overhaul of service.
The safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority. Greggs is trialing placing refrigerated items behind the counter to combat shoplifting.
This new policy will mean customers will now be unable to pick up refrigerated sandwiches and drinks themselves and will instead need to ask a shop assistant.
