The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) announced a temporary halt to food distribution efforts in the Gaza Strip due to security threats from Israeli forces, which have recently intensified, causing civilian casualties. The foundation plans to resume operations shortly, despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis exacerbated by an Israeli blockade limiting aid access. In addition, the UN Security Council is set to vote on a resolution advocating for a ceasefire and humanitarian access, although a US veto is likely. The situation remains dire, with increasing military actions leading to further casualties among Palestinian civilians, amplifying the need for humanitarian relief.
Israeli authorities have been imposing the use of GHF to distribute food rather than any of the agencies that traditionally operate in Gaza.
On Tuesday Israel's military had warned residents of Gaza against travel in areas leading to the distribution centres, after at least 27 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire.
The resolution text demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza respected by all parties and the immediate, dignified and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas.
An Israeli airstrike on a school housing displaced Palestinian families killed at least 10 people, including children, on Wednesday.
