Centrica reported that the UK's gas storage sites are at critically low levels, with only a week's worth of demand left due to high winter consumption and rising gas prices.
Chris O'Shea, Group Chief Executive of Centrica, emphasized the alarming situation, stating, 'The UK's gas storage levels are concerningly low. We are an outlier from the rest of Europe. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.'
The UK is highly reliant on gas for power generation and home heating, which highlights the urgency of the current gas storage crisis as demand outstrips supply.
The early onset of winter has exacerbated the gas supply issue, leading to a 26% decline in storage levels compared to last year, leaving the country vulnerable.
