"He was first reported to police by the nursery on May 25 2024, over concerns that he had been filming children in his care who were clearly distressed, crying, wetting themselves or eating their own mucus, superimposing audio or imagery over the videos in an apparent attempt at humour. He was arrested on suspicion of child neglect, but searches of his electronic devices led officers to the sexual offending."
"Among a mass of at least 25,000 downloaded indecent images of children, police found videos taken at the nursery itself of girls aged two to four years old who had been in Chan's care. Mr Stott said Chan had filmed himself abusing the children, during naptime, and he had organised the clips into folders labelled with the victim's name."
"Judge John Dodd told him: Lest we forget, each of the children pictured in your collection of child pornography is a victim as well. He said that nursery is a place where every parent and guardian expects their child to be safe. The judge said: Your breach of trust could hardly be greater, and you recorded the assaults. Chan has a deep-seated sexual obsession primarily with young children, the court heard."
Vincent Chan, 45, worked at a primary school in Finchley for ten years and joined the Bright Horizons nursery in Finchley Road, West Hampstead in 2017. He sexually abused and covertly filmed girls aged two to four while employed at the nursery, recording the assaults during naptime and organizing clips into folders labelled with victims' names. He also took upskirting videos of schoolgirls and spied on women and girls undressing. The nursery reported concerns on May 25, 2024, leading to an arrest and searches that uncovered a cache of at least 25,000 indecent images and videos. A judge sentenced him to 18 years.
