In the early hours of Sunday, a single-vehicle crash on the N4 near Rathowen resulted in two men in their 20s suffering serious injuries. The incident caused extensive debris on the road, which was closed for most of the day. Local publican John Feerick witnessed the aftermath, revealing how the vehicle damaged two trees before stopping close to his pub. Emergency services responded promptly, and Gardaí are looking for witnesses or any camera footage of the incident. Traffic diversions were implemented as investigations continued into the crash.
It took two trees out before the pub travelling from the Dublin direction, and went past us and 200 yards up the road before coming to a stop.
The road through the village remained closed for most of Sunday, but reopened shortly after 6pm.
The two male occupants of the vehicle, both in their 20s, were taken to Tullamore Hospital with serious injuries.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
