The Hansard couple, aged 87 and 82 respectively, suffered a life-altering incident when Joseph was violently attacked in the emergency department of Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin. The attack, witnessed by his injured wife Patricia, has left them devastated and profoundly changed their lives. The couple, previously described as 'a golden couple' by family members, now faces an uncertain future as they cope with the traumatic aftermath of the unprovoked violence they experienced together in a time of need.
The unprovoked attack, which was witnessed by his unwell wife from her hospital trolley, changed the lives of Joseph and Patricia Hansard irretrievably, the court also heard.
Outside court, members of the Hansard family said Patricia (87) and Joseph (82) were 'a golden couple' but since the attack their world has been shattered.
