Conor McGregor has bid to appeal civil rape case rejected by Supreme Court
"The public and private roads that I and my loved ones have travelled have been long and painful. Today marks not a victory for me but for all of those who have been treated as I have. You are never alone on your journey, if you choose not to be. Help and support is there."
"satisfied that the applicant has had a fair hearing"
"victory for the justice system"
The Supreme Court refused leave to appeal for Conor McGregor and denied James Lawrence's appeal over costs in a civil case arising from an alleged December 2018 hotel assault. A jury awarded the woman almost €250,000 in damages and found McGregor liable; McGregor was also ordered to pay about €1.3 million in legal costs. The jury did not find that Lawrence had assaulted the woman, but the trial judge decided Lawrence would not be awarded costs. The Supreme Court said the applicant had a fair hearing and that established principles on costs were applied. The alleged victim described the outcome as a victory for the justice system and urged others to seek support.
