Britain will be battered with cold snaps, floods, and storms by 2100
Briefly

A study from the University of Exeter and the Met Office indicates that Britain could face severe weather events due to changes in the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) driven by climate change. The NAO's fluctuating states could lead to unpredictable cold snaps, floods, and storms in the UK, with current climate models lacking precision. Lead author Dr. Doug Smith emphasizes the urgency of preparing for such extreme weather conditions, as the country is currently ill-equipped to handle these potential climate shocks by century's end.
According to their findings, errors in current climate models have led to uncertainty in predictions of the NAO's future behaviour.
These findings have major implications for understanding and preparing for extreme weather events, warned lead study author Dr Doug Smith.
A positive NAO on average can increase rainfall in northern Europe by a little over an eighth of an inch per day and warm the air there by roughly 5°F.
They point to the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) - a natural and temporary cooling and warming over parts of Europe and the North Atlantic ocean.
