In her new docuseries "Sherri Papini: Caught in the Lie," Sherri Papini attempts to reshape the narrative around her infamous kidnapping hoax. After pleading guilty in 2022, she reemerges, insistently claiming she was abducted, while facing multiple court proceedings involving her post-marriage romantic entanglements. Her original 2016 disappearance while jogging captured national attention and raised suspicions for being staged, as evident from the peculiar circumstances surrounding her reappearance. As she makes her case publicly, many doubt her narrative again, further complicating her legal battles and public perception.
"The story that the world thinks they know is that I'm a master manipulator who's fooled everyone. That's my magic wand... I'm gonna do ridiculous things because some of this is ridiculous."
Papini became a national news story when she vanished while jogging on Nov. 2, 2016... Investigators would later say this was one of the first red flags that something felt staged about the crime scene.
Investigators were dubious... They learned there were tensions in Keith and Sherri Papini's marriage and that she had reached out to other men on a burner phone.
On Thanksgiving Day, Papini reemerged near Interstate 5 in Yolo County, covered in wounds, bruises and the word 'EXODUS' branded on her shoulder.
