Photographer Ike Edeani found unexpected beauty in Guyana, particularly the unique Victoria amazonica flower that blooms at dusk. Despite his non-outdoorsy background, he embraced the chance to explore this jungle-clad country rich in biodiversity. Guyana is mostly unspoiled, featuring vast rainforests and unique wildlife, including 820 bird species and 228 mammals, like the jaguar. Kaieteur Falls, the tallest single-drop waterfall, showcases the region's natural magnificence. While lacking modern infrastructure, the sheer natural wonders make Guyana a hidden gem worth visiting.
"As soon as the sun dipped, the lily buds slowly started to open. They're called Victoria amazonica, and they only bloom at dusk. It was pretty incredible."
"I love to put myself in situations that are uncomfortable or different. Or places that I haven't been."
"About 60 percent of its landmass is covered with virgin rainforest, which is home to more than 820 species of birds and 320 documented species of reptiles and amphibians."
"Kaieteur Falls, in central Guyana, is the world's tallest single-drop waterfall at 741 feet, roughly five times higher than Niagara Falls."
