Many CAO tourism and hospitality courses are available across Ireland, offering multiple pathways into the industry. Work in tourism can vary widely, including organising major music events, supporting marketing campaigns, and collaborating with top chefs. The variety means no two days are the same, which can be both appealing and challenging. Ellen Thompson, a Golf Events Executive at Carton House, plans and delivers golf events, coordinates VIP visits, and supports senior management with administration, reporting, and coordination. She progressed through guest relations, front-of-house management, and events after starting part-time in hotels and completing a graduate programme, later earning IHI Young Hospitality Manager of the Year in 2024.
