Marriott is entering the luxury safari market with plans to launch two safari lodges in Kenya: a Ritz-Carlton and a JW Marriott. The Ritz-Carlton lodge, expected to have 20 suites with private pools and luxurious amenities, is set to open in August 2024. This move aligns with the rise in popularity of luxury safaris among wealthy travelers keen on experiencing the 'Big Five'. Notably, Marriott joins a competitive landscape, with other brands like Hyatt and Singita also enhancing their presence in this emerging travel trend.
At Marriott's coming Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara and JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve properties, guests can expect suites with private pools, restaurants on stargazing decks, and spa treatments - in addition to game drives, of course.
A crop of new camps and lodges have been opening across African hot spots. This includes the January launch of competitor Hyatt's Hyatt Regency Nairobi Westlands, its first Kenyan hotel a few hours' drive from surrounding reserves and parks.
