Hawaii girl found in a metal box finally identified

In short order, Othram developed a DNA profile and a possible relative was found. That relative provided a DNA sample that, when checked against the girl's profile, was a familial match.
A birth announcement in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin lists her parents as Mr. and Mrs. Lee R. Fink of Kaioo Drive. She was the second daughter born to the family.
It's not clear how Mary died or whether she met her end due to foul play. A now-archived page on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System site said the remains were discovered on the premises of Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.
Ten years went by with no identification, so in August, the medical examiner's office sent evidence to forensic genealogy lab Othram in Texas.
