The Mexican government has announced a $42 immigration fee for cruise passengers visiting the country's ports, applicable regardless of whether passengers disembark.
The Mexican Association of Naval Agents warned that the new fee could lead to a loss of 10 million passengers and visits from over 3,300 ships next year.
Travel agent Chris Lenat mentioned that the fee will be folded into the overall cruise costs, making it less noticeable for passengers but increasing costs overall.
Cruises to Mexico have been declining in popularity, and the additional $42 per passenger will exacerbate this trend, making Caribbean destinations more appealing.
