Omni Fort Lauderdale, the brand's flagship outpost in Greater Fort Lauderdale, opened in mid-December, just in time for the busy Caribbean sailing season. Since my first cruise out of Port Everglades in 2008, I've endured subpar hotels that, while checking off two basic requirements-shuttle to the airport and port, and proximity to the port-weren't anything to write home about. But the Omni-with 801 guest rooms, including 82 suites, six restaurants, and a spa-is a game-changer for fellow cruise travelers.
I had never seen a cruise ship in real life before April 2022. I'd traveled by car, bus, train, and plane, but the only boat I'd ever been on was a ferry. That changed about four years ago, when I boarded one of the world's largest cruise ships, Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas. During my seven-night Caribbean voyage, the ship sailed round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas.
I've been on lots of cruises, but my sailing to Alaska on the Disney Wonder really stands out. From the exciting excursions to the stunning views from the boat, the trip was unforgettable. I'd absolutely take another Alaskan cruise in the future. As a frequent traveler, I've sailed with several different cruise lines on itineraries throughout the Caribbean, Northern Europe, and the Mediterranean. But out of everywhere I've been, my favorite vacation was an eight-night sailing on board the Disney Wonder to Alaska.
