In the first quarter of 2025, Tesla maintained its position as the top seller of electric vehicles (EVs), selling 128,100 units despite an 8.6 percent year-over-year decrease. Ford followed as the second-best seller with an 11.5 percent increase to 22,550 units. Notably, Chevrolet experienced substantial growth at 114.2 percent increase, primarily driven by the Chevy Equinox EV. Overall, the market saw an increase in EV sales to 296,227 units, representing 7.5 percent of new vehicle sales, although challenges persist due to economic factors.

Cox notes that this is still a steady increase from 7 percent of the market during Q1 last year, despite headwinds created by the Trump administration's tariff war.
The year certainly started strong, but the road ahead will be anything but smooth, said Valdez Streaty, Cox Automotive analyst.
GM's Chevrolet brand saw a 114.2 percent increase in sales from the first quarter of 2024 with 19,186, as led by the Chevy Equinox EV.
