Residents of South Etobicoke are demanding immediate action from Metrolinx to enhance accessibility at the Mimico GO station. Although the agency announced a design phase for upgrades, no construction start date has been established. Frustration mounts, as residents have waited nearly a decade for improvements with previous projects failing. Mimico Residents Association president Rozhen Asrani points out the lack of basic accessibility features like an elevator and the barriers faced by individuals with strollers or mobility issues. The community feels their needs are being ignored in violation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
The community is very frustrated. Patience has run out. It's been a decade of a lack of accessibility and multiple failed promises by Metrolinx.
There are lots of barriers. It's difficult to get to [the station]... for people who use strollers, have mobility constraints, bicycles.
