Nintendo has announced the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, set for filming in New Zealand from November 2025 to April 2026 with a planned March 2027 release. Industry insiders suggest that this film could be the first in a trilogy, with a six-year plan to ensure major roles are contracted for the duration. The plot centers on Link protecting Hyrule from the villain Ganon while seeking the Triforce. This film follows the success of other Nintendo adaptations like Detective Pikachu and The Super Mario Bros Movie, which thrived at the box office.
VGC is reporting that industry insider Daniel Richtman claimed that The Legend of Zelda would be the first of a potential trilogy.
The potential trilogy would have a six-year plan, in which all significant acting roles would be signed on for the entire run.
The Legend of Zelda is the third Nintendo franchise to receive the film treatment in recent years, after Detective Pikachu and The Super Mario Bros Movie.
The Zelda film will be produced by creator Shigeru Miyamoto, representative director of Nintendo, and directed by Wes Ball.
