Brad Treliving on the remaining holes in the Leafs' roster after day one of FA: "The top six of our lineup is the area we are focused on right now... We will see how things play out from here"
Briefly

General Manager Brad Treliving acknowledged the anticipated departure of Mitch Marner, stating it is never easy losing a significant player. Despite the loss, the team successfully acquired Nic, a valuable centerman with a Stanley Cup champion background, to fill immediate needs. Treliving recognized Marner's considerable contributions and suggested he will be remembered as a great player in franchise history. The discussions with Marner regarding a contract were complex, highlighting the challenges posed by his No-Movement Clause and his representatives' choices.
It's become apparent for a while now that Mitch was going to move on. When a player of Mitch's magnitude moves away, it is never a fun day, but we were able to recoup a player who I think can really help us.
We are excited about Nic. He is a big centerman who has a Stanley Cup ring to his name and fills a need for us right now.
Mitch's time here... I have had two years with him, but I was able to watch for a long time from afar. Tremendous player. Tailoring our approach was necessary due to his No-Movement Clause.
Ultimately, the player has a choice. I am not going to get into discussions. I don't think it is proper to get into personal discussions that I have with players.
