Toronto police have observed a concerning rise in criminal incidents tied to the tow truck industry, with firearms being increasingly involved in territorial disputes between operators.
The initiative will see both plainclothes and uniformed officers targeted in key areas of the city where several shootings in the tow truck industry have been reported.
Last year alone, there were 63 shooting incidents linked to tow truck disputes, making up nearly 13% of all shootings in Toronto.
Authorities are concerned as this year has witnessed an uptick in violence, prompting the Toronto police to take immediate action with a new enforcement approach.
