Toronto city staff scale back proposal for priority bus lane on Dufferin, Bathurst streets | CBC News
Briefly

City staff propose changes to dedicated bus lanes for Bathurst and Dufferin streets, limiting extensions to certain areas. Recommendations include bus-only lanes on Dufferin from King to Bloor streets and on Bathurst from Lake Shore to Bloor streets, excluding areas under construction. Mixed reactions from residents emerged due to concerns about parking loss and congestion. Approximately 75 parking spaces would be removed on Dufferin and 277 on Bathurst. The project is estimated to cost $8 million and could begin construction this fall if approved by the city council next month.
According to the city staff report, the priority lanes would see 75 parking spaces removed along Dufferin Street and 277 parking spaces on Bathurst Street.
Philip Morse, senior project manager for the city's transportation services, stated that 'What we saw in the data is that Dufferin is congested, Dufferin is slow and Dufferin needs to be better.'
The Dufferin proposal has sparked mixed reactions from residents who raised concerns over the loss of parking spaces and congestion during a virtual town hall.
The city is considering installing priority bus lanes with an estimated $8 million in capital funding to make the changes.
