Dylan Sampson, an avid angler, caught a rare muskie while fishing in Toronto Harbour, marking only the second confirmed muskie catch in the area in the last 30 years. This rare occurrence is significant, as the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) has not documented any such catches in their extensive monitoring. After capturing the one-meter-long fish weighing around nine kilograms, Sampson released it back into the water. His catch highlights ongoing conservation efforts aimed at improving water quality and restoring habitats in the harbour, which supports the return of top-order predators like muskie.
When I saw the pattern, I knew right away it was not a pike.
I've gone out with him and he's taught me so much ... he was in complete awe when he saw that muskie.
The TRCA says it's been working to rehabilitate the Toronto Harbour through measures like habitat restoration and improving water quality.
My line has gotten stronger my lures have gotten bigger and I'm going to get another one.
